Is Your Head TOO Big to Show a Little Gratitude?

I have built a fairly large social network.  Combining my contacts from all of my networks I have nearly 17000 connections!  How in the world can I manage that many connections? The funny thing is, that number is probably very low compared to many key influencers who have much larger and more active networks than I do.

What are your expectations?

show gratitude in social mediaDo you expect a seasoned blogger or a Twitter Superstar to show you gratitude for re-tweet’s? When you receive a thumbs up or a like on Facebook do you think you should acknowledge it with a thank you? How could you possibly show gratitude to everyone who took the time to help you spread your message?  Think how long it would take…  hours, minutes, a few seconds?  Look in the mirror, are you really too important to share two little words?  I hope not, because a little bit of gratitude goes a long way.    😉

In my opinion we should acknowledge everyone who graciously mentions our tweets or takes the time to like our updates.  There are all kinds of ways we can show gratitude.  Margie Clayman offers some great options for saying thank you on twitter.

A Facebook “Like” can create an experience of gratitude.

With the new functionality of the “like” button this is even more prevalent.  Each time someone “Likes” your content the full story will be posted to their wall and in their feed.  How can you not say “Thanks You”, it’s just common courtesy!!  John Lusher is one who unselfishly demonstrates the art of gratification. He recently shared on his blog a re-post  from Chris Brogan,  An Insider’s Guide to Social Media Etiquette.

So in conclusion, does it matter how big you are to show gratitude?  Whether you are Denise Wakeman or Danny Brown, you can always find ways to show some gratitude, and thank you Denise and Danny because you both do an excellent job!

What are your thoughts on showing gratitude?  I’d love for you to leave your comments below, and I’ll thank you later!

  2. This is a great post Patsy! No one, and I mean no one, whether they are large or small, should be too large to show gratitude!! Thank you for mentioning my re-post of Chris Brogan’s post; I felt it was necessary to get that in front of my network! I knew I could re-post Chris’ post if I linked back to his site, but I sent a DM asking permission first. He graciously responded back personally and we know how many followers that man has! Show some gratitude people; you know its the right thing to do!!
